A:
The genesis for the.voter.education.project came about after my own frustrating voting experience during the November 2008 presidential election. The media was saturated with information about the presidential candidates, but I found attention paid to local candidates and issues disturbingly absent from the mainstream political discussion. As someone with a masters degree, who considers herself politically literate, I was shocked at how taxing and difficult it was to determine who was running in my district, what each candidates' stances were on the issues important to me, and what the ballot even looked like. Even the government's own Board of Election had posted out of date info, allowing attention to be skewed toward whichever candidate chose to answer their questionnaire.
This election has proven how a grassroots political movements can affect real change in Washington and beyond. Continuing that change is now up to each elected representatives' constituents: the American people. The voters. You and me.
My vision is for the.voter.education.project to evolve into a one-stop shop for the NYC voter to access non-partisan information as to who is in office, what their stances are on the issues that matter, and what their voting record is in both in the state house and senate and in Washington, all in an effort to perpetuate this climate of change.
